Did you know that many dogs love and even crave mental enrichment?
What is Mental Enrichment? Mental enrichment is a form of engagement. It helps to reduce stress, build confidence, increase happiness, and can allow your dog to safely explore their instincts. Mental Enrichment is actually way easier than you would expect! There are many things that you can do to add fun to your dog’s life by using common household items.
So let’s ditch that boring food bowl and have fun with your dog!
Cardboard Boxes:
These are in every person’s household, you can use one, ten, or even more! Sprinkle your dog’s kibble in the box, close it up and let them have at it. You can up the difficulty by stacking them on top of each other or one inside the other!
Paper towel and toilet paper rolls:
Fill with kibble and fold the ends together. This activity will allow your pup to work their brain and satisfy their need to tear things. Also, for especially destructive pups, this gives them a safe and appropriate outlet to fulfill that craving. Just be sure to supervise your pup while they have fun!

Easter eggs:
Fill plastic Easter eggs and hide them in the house or back yard. Leash up your pup (So they don’t go exploring on their own) and lead your dog around to find them. Keep some treats in your pocket as well. Once they start sniffing and find the egg, reward them with a treat. Then, open the egg up and let them have their kibble as well. Make sure to hand wash the eggs before use.
Snuffle Mats:
You can buy these at many pet retailers. They come in many shapes, sizes and styles. You simply sprinkle the kibble over and in the grooves and they have to sniff out their food.
